And then there were none 2011 is a detective story by Agatha Christie first published in 1939 under the title 'Ten Little Niggers' but later changed for obvious reasons to its current title. It has sold over 100 million copies, making it not only Agatha Christie's best selling novel but also one of the best selling books of all time. First staged in 1943, the story was later screened in several film versions and is even on sale as a video game. The play is set during a storm on Burgh Island off the coast of South Devon, its art deco hotel on the island being a favourite haunt of Agatha Christie before WWII. Much restored, it remains a hotel to this day. The nursery rhyme 'Ten Little Indians' (or Soldiers) is central to the plot and a framed copy is displayed over the fireplace together with ten little figurines.
